What is fraud?

In the UK, the statutory definition is set out in the Fraud Act 2006.

It consists of the following offences:

1. Fraud by false representation;
2. Fraud by failing to disclose information;
3. Fraud by abuse of position.

These offences carry prison sentences of up to 10 years or a fine or both.
